Note that many, many more stories can be found in our magazines section! This section includes extracts from our novels, juvenilia and some stories from periods when we were, unaccountably, publishing neither magazines nor books.

Douglas Abernathy’s Morning is an extract from Aardvark Attack, posted here at the request of the author to make amends for the lateness of that novel. This describes the process by which Douglas Abernathy would wake up, each morning during World War II.

Encounter with the Myreli is an extract from Elsewhere, depicting Jake’s first meeting with the strange winged humanoids of the world into which he has fallen. If you are among the few Silver Age dudes (official title) to have not yet purchased a copy of this stunning and scintillating novel, do so as soon as this sample has caressed your eyes!

The Man Who Found a Comprehensive Answer to the Fundamental Problem of His Existence Ben Chadwick is an affecting story from the pen of Ben. The biography of Ben Chadwick is now available. This story may or may not be available to read at the current time.

The New God: John Greenwood announced at one point that he was beginning work on a novel set partly on Mars. This story was to serve as a prelude to that project. It may or may not be available to read at the current time.

Rolnikov Goes to the Bar is an entertaining extract from Quiet, the Tin Can Brains are Hunting!, which features someone doing a poo in their pants! Silver Age – more highbrow than BBC Four and the Discovery Channel combined…

Liquid Sleep is an intriguing story that wasn’t quite ready in time for Elephant, though it pre-dates many of the stories in that collection. The author simply felt it was not quite up to the standards of his other work, but after re-working it a little, he thought it was good enough to serve as an introduction to his style.

Professor Summerlee Among the Pygmies is an extract from Professor Challenger in Space, SW Theaker’s first novel. This exciting extract sees Professor Summerlee struggling to survive as his expedition to South America falls afoul of intolerance and arrows.

Cartonia Orange 7 is a round-robin novella is notable for introducing Milon the Assassin. Oddly enough, he was created by Steven Gilligan, even though it was SW Theaker who would go on to exploit the character in comics and novels, setting a trend for the ruthless exploitation of underlings that marks Silver Age Books as the retrogressive employers that they are.

Cartonia Red 3 is a sequel to the adventures of Milon the Assassin and Jennifer the Complete as narrated in Cartonia Orange 7. Unfortunately it is SW Theaker’s turn to write a portion, and he seems to be taking his time over it.

In this department, Silver Age Books is also pleased to present youthful attempts at literature from those of our authors who are ready to hold themselves up to ridicule. We make no promises concerning the quality of the work you will find here... but one thing we guarantee: in these stories can be found the seeds of the Silver Age, no matter how far off its final blooming was to be.

Readers in search of further juvenile material are referred to our comics section.
