1. Theaker's 28 - now out!

The latest an issue has been for ages! But at last Theaker's Quarterly Fiction #28 is available. You can grab it from our website as a free pdf, or buy it as a paperback book from Lulu. It's also available from Feedbooks in lots of different ebook formats.

This is one of our most interesting and varied issues yet. It starts in the best possible way with "Quadrant Five" - a bunch of people on a spaceship going who knows where. That's followed by the next riveting instalment of Newton Braddell and a short-short from Josie Gowler, "Soldier", before things get rather literary with the double-barrelled strangeness of "Breaking Out of Sleep" and "Anatomy of a Wounded House", from Barry Pomeroy and Douglas Thompson respectively. Then John Hall wonders whether you dare descend "The Stairs in the Crypt", and Jason Hinchcliffe tells the saga of the "Bloodbegotten".

I round out the issue with a bunch of my famously perspicacious reviews - what have I decreed to be "well-written", "brilliant" and "superb" this time around?

2. The storySouth Million Writers Award

Jason Sanford, on the British Fantasy Awards longlist for his short story, "The Ships Like Clouds Risen By Their Rain" (from Interzone 217), is also the organiser of the annual storySouth Million Writers Award for online fiction. The list of notable stories has just been released.

For anyone interested in fantasy, science fiction or horror this list of stories - complete with links to where to read them on the net - is an annual treat, and this year again it's a treat for TQF, since one of our stories is on the list: the marvellous "The Spirits of '26" by Robert Laughlin.

The top ten stories will be announced on May 15. The overall winner receives a prize of $500. Good luck, Robert!

3. Douglas Thompson,

Douglas Thompson contributed "Anatomy of a Wounded House" to this issue (and there'll be another of his stories next issue), which is drawn from his forthcoming surrealist collection/novel from Eibonvale Press, Ultrameta. Keep an eye on their website for further details.

4. The Mercury Annual

Our own first book in some time is almost out. Work on it is finished, and we're just waiting for the details to make their way to the online bookshops of the world. Almost there...
