1. Theaker's Quarterly Fiction #23

The new issue of TQF has an enormous (by our standards) review section, lots of great stories, and a terrifyingly long and self-justificatory rant from the editor, who got his knickers in a twist about a blog entry, and, fearing the onset of internet fever, went away to write his thoughts in an essay instead. Very healthy! (So why am I writing about myself in the third person?)

Contents:

* Editors, Writers and Money: in Defence of Amateurs by Stephen Theaker
* The Orphans of Time by Wayne Summers (who also provides cover and interior artwork)
* Newton Braddell and His Inconclusive Researches into the Unknown: At the Mountains of Madness by John Greenwood
* Devil on My Stomach: a Tale of Tiana's World by Richard K Lyon & Andrew J Offutt
* When a Baby Laughs by Anna M Lowther
* Shaggai by John Hall
* Reviews galore

2. StorySouth - Million Writers Award

Some very exciting news: Ananke, a story by Jeff Crook which appeared in TQF#18, has been selected as one of the "notable stories of 2007" by the judges of the Million Writers Award (an award dedicated to online fiction). While I'd like to take the credit by claiming that I knocked an atrocious and unreadable manuscript into a shimmering work of art, the truth of course is that it arrived with me in its fully-formed award-nominated state, and so all credit must go to the author! Follow the link to find out about other notable stories of 2007.

3. Goodreads Fever!

Earlier in this email I mentioned narrowly escaping a bout of internet fever, but there was one fever I didn't escape: Goodreads fever! For a good few weeks I spent every spare moment adding every book I've read and every book I've owned to my list on the website. Thankfully the madness is now done, and, discovering that I own over 1150 unread and unfinished books, I've made a vow to buy no more until I've got that number below 1000. It's a great site, and using it has encouraged me to write lots and lots of reviews (as seen in this issue). The link will take you to see my profile, from where you'll be able to see my latest reviews and so on.
