1. Theaker's Quarterly Fiction #22

Issue twenty-two of Theaker's Quarterly Fiction is one of our best yet (I know, I say that every time), and it's now available to download.

From Mike Schultheiss we have "Darwin's Corridor", a rousing tale of action, colonialism, love, anthropology and philosophy on a far-off planet. Though I've enjoyed everything I've published in this magazine, this one probably comes closest so far to being exactly the kind of thing we're looking for - it's thematically rich while also pulpily adventuresome.

Then we have "The Spirits of '26", by Robert Laughlin, a Silverberg-esque story of ambition, dedication and calamity. It's serious, creepy and very memorable.

Sam Leng returns to our pages with "A Matter of Taste", a nice slice of apocalypse on toast, while Richard K Lyon and Andrew J Offut supply another in their series of Tiana adventures, unearthed from their vaults.

John Greenwood describes the next events in the unfortunate life of Newton Braddell, researcher unextraordinary, and we round out the issue with a bunch of short reviews.

2. Dark Horizons #53

I've been lucky enough to be appointed editor of the journal of the British Fantasy Society, Dark Horizons. The magazine goes out free to all members of the society.

I'm taking over from #53, and I'm on the lookout for submissions. Fantasy and horror fiction is welcome, but we're interested in non-fiction too. If that sounds interesting, take a look at the guidelines on the page linked below. (I'll be updating them as I get to grips with the job.)

3. Blambot Fonts

A quick note about Blambot - I've been using their fabulous fonts for ages on TQF, but had forgotten where they came from. Many of their fonts are free for non-profit and independent comics use, and we've used their funky Battlelines font on the cover of this issue. Highly recommended!

4. storySouth Million Writers Award

Thanks to Robert Laughlin and Jeff Crook for alerting us to this award for online fiction. Editors get to nominate three stories, so I picked our three most nominatable and put them forward. Good luck to all three!

But our own interest aside, the editorial nominations page, linked below, is a treasure trove of free online fiction, and well worth an hour or two of anyone's reading time.
