Merry Christmas! (17 December 2001) Merry Christmas to everyone visiting the Silver Age, and thanks to everyone who has supported us during our most exciting year to date. Next year is bound to put it in the shade, so don’t go away! Our dream is to make every day feel like Christmas! – All at Silver Age Books Yet More New Titles - Elephant! (14 December 2001) This is starting to get a bit silly now, you might think, with books popping out all over the place, but once the flame of the Silver Age started to spread, it found ready made tinder boxes in creative souls across the country, all waiting to join the inferno... And so we announce, with the greatest pleasure, the sixth author to have joined our ranks: Harsh Grewal, author of the fascinating short story, Sister Lovers, from New Words 4. He has agreed to let Silver Age Books publish his first volume of short stories, Elephant, as well as a volume of literary reviews. – Howard Phillips New History Section – Where Dead Words Live On! (9 December 2001) The focus of Silver Age Books tends to be on the future, but we have a healthy respect for our past. And so as our publishing moves ever onward and upward, we’ve dedicated two parts of this site to reaching back, to those stories in which the Silver Age first began to bloom. Both can be found under History on the contents bar. First comes a section devoted to Juvenilia [NB. this section was later assimiliated into other parts of the website - SWT, 2006], which we hope will afford some amusement. Then there’s a section dedicated to New Words, the magazine in which most of our authors saw their stuttering attempts at literature first published. We’ll slowly add stories to this section as we reacquire the rights. My poetry is already on there, so you can make your own minds up about it... – Howard Phillips Three More New Titles! (6 December 2001) Things are really starting to move here at Silver Age Books. Steven Gilligan has turned in the first 80 pages of Elsewhere and it’s looking like something really special... In the light of this, we’ve decided to really push on with our publishing schedule over the next year or so. It looks like Alec Abernathy is close to completing Aardvark Attack! And Stephen William Theaker has promised a third novel in his Ibis sequence, Rolnikov, Mad Knight of Uttar Pradesh, for next Christmas. Caught up in this mad rush of publishing mania, Steven Gilligan has decided also to place his second novel, Alpha.one, with Silver Age Books, as well as his first, despite numerous agents clamouring for a piece of the action! Our authors may never become rich, but they know they’re part of something special, something growing, something we call... the Silver Age! – Howard Phillips The Birmingham Film Festival! (15 November 2001) Silver Age Books is proud to be based in Birmingham, and the whole company welcomes the arrival of the Birmingham Film Festival, which kicks off tonight with a gala showing of Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding. As a reward for all their hard work for us this year, all Silver Age Books employees have been given tickets and the afternoon off! - SWT The Authorcam is Go! (14 November 2001) Eagle-eyed visitors to the site will have noticed a recent and rather startling addition – the astonishing Silver Age Authorcam! Though this is currently trained, for testing purposes only, on Silver Age Books publisher and author, Stephen William Theaker, going about his daily business, which is unlikely to prove riveting viewing for any but the most bored, the ultimate plan is to arrange a series of special authorcasts for next year, during which it is hoped that various members of the Silver Age family, such as Alec Abernathy, Howard Phillips and perhaps even Steven Gilligan, will write live on screen, with their texts appearing as if by magic beside their pictures as they work. It’s a beautiful dream, and one we hope to make come true, for all of you. - SWT Silver Age Publishing Plans! (6 November 2001) The future is indeed bright for Silver Age Books! To sum up our latest news, we now have two titles due for publication. See below. - Howard Phillips Quiet, the Tin Can Brains are Hunting! The long-awaited follow-up to the magnificent bestseller, Professor Challenger in Space, is our first SF Special! This is an adventure that spreads its wings like an ungainly bird from the 19th century kitchen of a mysterious heroine to the far reaches of the untold universe! Author: Stephen William Theaker. Publication due: 10 December 2001. ISBN 0 9537650 1 6. Price: £5.99 Details on this title are as yet sparse, but rumour has it that this is one to look out for! We anticipate this title to be our biggest seller to date! The author says simply this on his website: “follow Jake's spellbinding journey as he travels to worlds beyond the very edges of reason”. Author: Steven Gilligan. Publication due: 31 March 2002. ISBN 0 9537650 2 4. Price: tbc Band of Brothers! (2 November 2001) Steven, it’s the day I’ve always dreamed of! Let our Silver Age family stroll forward into a bright and shining future! - SWT Publishing Request (30 October 2001) Stephen, will you publish Elsewhere for me? Please find attached a possible front cover. - Steven Gilligan Hot News for Gilligan Fans! (30 October 2001) On a whim last night, I decided to write my first novel. I've mapped out a storyline and chapter structure, which I will share with you once I'm sure it's all going in the right direction. All I can say is that it's a “Dark Fantasy” and its working title is Elsewhere. - Steven Gilligan Quiet, the First Order’s Arrived! (23 October 2001) I’m pleased to announce that we have received our first order for our next title: Quiet, the Tin Can Brains are Hunting!, by the esteemed Stephen William Theaker. Hopefully those in the organisation who criticise my marketing methods will now fall to their knees and pray for forgiveness. Publication of this title is due on 10 December 2001. - Howard Phillips Kudos to Phillips! (19 September 2001) While of course the whole Silver Age team is grateful to Howard, our Marketing Manager, for his diligent stewardship of the on-line Silver presence, it’s only right for me to stick my nose in from time to time. Howard does sometimes forget who is the boss around here, but those readers who worry over the petty slanders that sneak onto the site should rest assured that the perpetrator is repaid in full by the many imprecations slung his way as he awkwardly carries our tea and biscuits around the office, tripping over outstetched feet as he goes. Perhaps if he ever finishes his promised trilogy of detective thrillers we might afford him a little more respect. - SWT Silver Age Art! (18 September 2001) We’re pleased to announce the latest stage of development of our Silver world – now, in addition to our well-established departments of film, cartoon and literature, we add a home for wayward artists. At present two paintings are featured, both by our resident dissolute painter, Ranjna Theaker (who, as one might guess from the name, had the misfortune to marry the author of Professor Challenger in Space, despite having received much better offers from much more qualified writers). All paintings are available for purchase. - Howard Phillips Hyperlink News! (18 September 2001) I've added a link to your website from www.stevengilligan.com. - Steven Gilligan The Silver Age is Back! (20 August 2001) Well, it’s been quite a while since I got around to writing a few words from the Silver Age bullpen, and since then a lot has happened... The Rocket Library has shut down, making it a lot less convenient to publish electronically. So we’re refocusing on paper, for the moment. We’ve implemented a revolutionary program of donating overstocks of our titles to selected UK libraries, in order to put them directly into the hands of the most devoted readers in the country... We’ve also made plans for the publication of our next book... details will be forthcoming, so be sure to check back in with us. - Howard Phillips Rather than being true news items, these following notes were originally part of an SAB Chronology that appeared on the site when it was first created.
