“Cordophilia”
Cordwainer Smith was a really fine fellow,
Though
that was a pseudonym and he was crazy. He was
adviser to the US in the Korean War. When the
defeated Korean soldiers would rather die than give up their arms, He
pointed out that the Chinese words For
love, duty, humanity and virtue, when shouted out loud Sounded
just like the English of “I surrender”. He saved
their lives, and who knows? He might save yours.
Altogether now: Martel was angry. He did
not even adjust his blood away from anger.

*“Francois
Mottier’s Book”
In the
green land,
Across the
small sea,
They drink
coffee
Instead of
pale tea.
What I
found there
Was a
certain book,
Which you
might think
Was worth a
look.
And yet you
would
Be sorely
wrong,
So please
don’t think
About it
long:
A book so
bad
It couldn’t
be worse,
“Philip
Jose Farmer
Conquers
the Universe!”
Howard Phillips
Poem for my Love How far
back does sf go, To
Gilgamesh or Frankenstein? Those
theories have not convinced, So now
you should pay heed to mine. SF’s a
melange of various types, The
utopia, the conte fantastique kiss. Whoever
tries to argue this point, Misses
the fact that it’s all just spaceships.
Howard Phillips * I actually think that Philip Jose Farmer Conquiert L'Univers is an excellent book, and one I would be privileged to translate some day - SWT (2004) |
