This is the second novel by Stephen William Theaker, author of Professor Challenger in Space. After Milon the Assassin is captured by the tin can brains, Mrs Anna Challenger, head of the Interstellar Bureau of Investigation and Skulduggery (Ibis for short), is forced to send a team of neophyte agents on a desperate rescue mission. But what is the secret that threatens the universe? Who is the evil mastermind calling himself Tortoisio? And why does Mrs Challenger, a married woman, find the sweat of Nanotus the Giant so fascinating? All these questions will be answered, while others will be asked, in this stunning work of fantastic fiction. Will Detective Jim Grimmett, the hard-bitten turn-of-the-century London copper, Professor Samson Quigg, the strangely driven biological scientist, and Nanotus the Giant, a superstrong and semi-reformed intergalactic villain who once vowed to take revenge on Milon for the destruction of his home planet, be able to set aside their differences long enough to save Milon, and with him, the universe? That it won't be an easy ride for them is confirmed by the fact that Mrs Challenger has also to enlist the aid of Rolnikov, mad knight of Uttar Pradesh, and his squire, Pelney. When asked for his comments on the book for www.amazon.co.uk, the author had this to say: “This was the second novel I wrote, a follow up of sorts to my first, Professor Challenger in Space. The novel's slightly unusual tripartite structure was originally inspired by the idea I had of basing the story around the three eyes of Edward Malone - parts one and two would recount what his left and right eyes saw upon being stolen and sold to aliens. The third part would have dealt with the robotic eye created for Malone by Professor Challenger. In the end, Malone didn't make it into this novel, and neither did his eyes, but there's still much to enjoy!” Publication: 10 December 2001 ISBN 0 9537650 1 6 Price: £5.99. “Like a Stainless Steel Rat adventure with important organs missing ... Mercifully short, refreshingly pointless, memorably forgettable." SFX “S.W. Theaker's latest offering is a mind-expanding, heart-quickening, palm-moistening adventure on a galactic scale, encompassing lofty moral discussion and low humour, leaping from laser battles to tender love scenes, and including more monkeys than you could possibly imagine.” Reader from England, www.amazon.co.uk “With such mastermind creations as the Travelling Dimension, and the Town of Monkey-Monkey (two monkeys came here once, not just one) ... may it rest in the most visible place on your bookshelf for all to see and marvel at.” Reader from UK, www.amazon.co.uk “a distant and even more pointless sequel to his silly Professor Challenger in Space” David Langford This novel was serialized in issues two and three of Theaker's Quarterly Fiction.
